Portraiture is experiencing a fascinating reinterpretation in contemporary art. Today, artistic approaches reflect the complexity
and diversity of human identity and social contexts. A central feature of this is the interplay with identity and self-perception. The portrait is far more than a depiction of a face; it is a multifaceted medium that reflects identity, society, and the contemporary world.

Das Porträt erlebt in der zeitgenössischen Kunst eine faszinierende Neuauslegung. Heute reflektieren künstlerische Ansätze die Komplexität und Vielfalt menschlicher Identität und gesellschaftlicher Kontexte. Ein zentrales Merkmal dabei ist das Spiel mit Identität und Selbstwahrnehmung. Das Porträt ist weit mehr als die Abbildung eines Gesichts. Es ist ein vielschichtiges Medium, das Identität, Gesellschaft und die aktuelle Welt reflektiert.

The exhibition layers and layers and … brings monotype and painting into a dialogue about layering, process, and the perception of nature. Lines, rubbings, and color fields interact with overlapping color spaces and large-scale image surfaces. Landscape appears less as a concrete view and more as an atmosphere—shaped by light, color, movement, and time. Between figuration and abstraction, plant forms, natural elements, and human figures emerge, offering multiple interpretations. The works invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover the layers from which impressions arise.

Die Ausstellung layers and layers and … bringt Monotypie und Malerei in einen Dialog über Schichtung, Prozess und Naturwahrnehmung. Linien, Abreibungen und Farbflächen treffen auf überlagerte Farbräume und großformatige Bildfelder. Landschaft erscheint dabei weniger als konkrete Ansicht, sondern eher als Atmosphäre – geprägt von Licht, Farbe, Bewegung und Zeit. Zwischen Figuration und Abstraktion tauchen Pflanzenformen, Naturelemente und menschliche Figuren auf und eröffnen unterschiedliche Lesarten. Die Werke laden dazu ein, Wahrnehmung zu verlangsamen, genauer hinzusehen und die Schichten zu entdecken, aus denen Eindrücke entstehen.

Artist in Residence at Atelier – Stiftung Kunst und Natur, Bispingen, 2025

The exhibition showcased the results of a four-week residency at the Atelier Foundation for Art and Nature. A series of monotypes was developed, exploring the interplay between natural surroundings and artistic experimentation. The residency provided a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, fostering dialogue and exchange within the studio and landscape.

The group exhibition features works by Felix Gaisbauer, Ulrike Zabel, Doris Hansen, Mareike Seegers-Herenda, and Achim Stegmüller.

I wander all night at Kunstquartier Bethanien. Master students and undergraduates from the Academy of Fine Arts explored the theme of sleep, offering a visual approach to dream-like states. With walk I, Erika Richter and Svenja Landsiedel initiated a series of exhibitions dedicated to the unseen images of sleep.

Take a Rest by Walking presents photographs by two art students who, after their exchange semester in Aberdeen, embarked on a journey through the legendary Scottish Highlands, spending their nights in bothies. The title reflects the sense of slowing down while walking. They spent a week in the mountains, where their worries faded, their minds cleared, and the weight they carried fit into their backpacks. Equipped with two cameras, they captured self-portraits and landscapes, offering an intimate glimpse into their daily life on the trail.
